Principal Nature of Business

A Not-For-Profit Collective providing alternative Health Medicines and Services to Member Owners.

An important role of CANTO DIEM DISPENSING COLLECTIVE INC is to work with qualified individuals and Dispensing Collectives that safely promote and facilitate the nonprofit, collaborative association of legally qualified patients and their primary caregivers who are engaged in the medical cultivation and use of cannabis as authorized under California Health and Safety Code §11362.5 and 11362.7, et seq.

Their principal function in this regard is to receive excess medication grown by legally qualified patient-members or their caregivers and make it available to other legally qualified patient-members or their caregivers. Dispensing Collectives do not make cannabis available to the general public, or to anyone else who is not a registered member of the collective and entitled to possess it pursuant to California law.

Talking to Your Doctor About Medical Cannabis

In order to be a legal patient in California under state law, you must have a recommendation or approval from a California Doctor for the use of medical cannabis. Your recommendation may be written or oral, but oral recommendations are difficult to verify and may leave you unprotected. The Supreme Court has ruled that doctors cannot be punished for recommending medical cannabis (Conant v. McCaffery, 2002), so there is no legal reason why your personal doctor cannot write your letter of recommendation. If your doctor cannot orwill not write a recommendation, you may choose to visit a medical cannabis specialist.

Canto Diem can provide you with a list of independent specialists. In fact, we have a comprehensive online index of specialists you can call upon. We are unable to recommend anyone as we are an independent body without ties to other bodies, corporations or individuals. Cannabis is a legitimate and widely recognized medicine and you have a right to use it under state law. Be prepared to tell your doctor specifically why you use cannabis, what other treatments you have tried, how much cannabis you use, how it effects you, and what side effects you experience.

Membership Qualifications

Canto Diem provides medicines and services to registered members with current and verifiable letters of recommendation. We are unable to provide any medicines or services until your recommendation and the status of your doctor’s license has been verified by our staff.

  1. You must submit an original and unexpired copy of your letter of recommendation from a California doctor. We will not keep your original letter.
  2. You must present a valid and unexpired California driver’s license or California state ID card.
  3. You must sign a Pre-Verification Form and complete an interview before receiving medicines and services from us.
  4. Your membership is valid until your letter of recommendation expires, or for one (1) year if there is no expiration dated on your letter.
  5. Membership is “at will,” and may be terminated by you or by Canto Diem at any time.

Legal Information

Cannabis will have variable effects when used by different people and under different circumstances. You must discuss indications and side effects with your doctor. Good Neighbors

Canto Diem shares this neighborhood with homes and business. We are working hard to establish a positive relationship with our neighbors, the city, and the police department. The most likely cause for trouble in Los Angeles is complaints by neighbors regarding our operations. Please be respectful of their rights, privacy, and property. Remember, not everyone shares our opinions about medical cannabis!

You should be very careful not to park in driveways or in illegal spaces. Ask our staff for help with parking! We have promised our neighbors that there will be no loitering or nuisance behavior near our building. Help us keep this commitment by not lingering in the neighborhood or on the sidewalk. Always be courteous to those who live and work nearby.

We want you to feel safe at our facility. Please ask us if you need an escort to your car. Let us know if you see any suspicious behavior in the neighborhood. These simple precautions will keep Canto Diem operating smoothly and without legal interference. This will ensure that we are here to serve you for years to come.

Sensible Cannabis Use

1. Adults should use cannabis as part of a healthy, balanced, and responsible lifestyle.
2. The decision to use cannabis should be made freely, and not as a result of social pressure.
3. Cannabis users should be well informed about its effects on themselves and others. These effects include both legal and health risks and personal consequences.
4. Never use cannabis as an excuse or a cue for antisocial or irresponsible behavior.
5. Cannabis users should model and reward responsible use, particularly with new users.
6. Use cannabis as part of positive social interactions, rather than primarily in isolation or as a remedy for negative feelings.
7. Develop sensible cannabis use limits for yourself based on personal, health, situational and cultural factors. It is important to be objective about your personal cannabis use and listen to the constructive advice of others.
8. Avoid cannabis use that puts you or others at risk, such as when driving, at work, or in public places. Remember, personal use of cannabis is illegal and penalties are stiff.
9. Use of cannabis by children is inappropriate and should be discouraged.
10. Cannabis use should contribute to, rather than detract from, user’s health, well-being, creativity, work, relationships and social obligations.
